Estudio de factibilidad para la implementación de un sistema de transporte público urbano en el cantón Piñas del Ecuador

Abstract

The objective of this degree project was to conduct a feasibility study for the implementation of the Urban Public Transportation system within the Piñas canton based on Resolution No. 006- CNC-2012, which enables the transfer of powers to the Decentralized Autonomous Governments in the areas of transportation, transit, and road safety, so that they have the power to plan, regulate and, control within their constituency. Mixed research was used in which the strengths of the quantitative and qualitative methods were used, with a level of exploratory and descriptive research for which the survey, interview, and observation sheets were applied as research tools. A total of 378 surveys were conducted and, once the tabulation was done, 84% of feasibility and 81% of acceptance by the inhabitants regarding the implementation of the urban public transportation system were obtained. Three routes were established, obtaining approximately 38.4 km that will cover the transportation system within the urban sector of the canton, based on the technical requirements of the National Transit Agency. With the methodology presented by Molineros, we were able to design a proposal that encompasses all the components that the system needs to provide a safe, fast, accessible, and efficient service from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm. It is concluded that the current supply does not satisfy the inhabitants' need for transportation and that there is an unsatisfied demand. It is recommended that an urban public transportation system be implemented to improve the mobility of the inhabitants and thus also help the socio-economic development of the Piñas canton.
