Abstract

The objective of this research work was to improve the conditions of vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the urban area of the city of Tena, oriented towards the implementation of mechanisms and strategies to reduce traffic accidents caused by speeding. The research was carried out through documentary and field research, allowing the location of critical points through the investigation of accident reports and activity centers, in addition to a diagnosis of the current situation through the application of perception surveys to road users and an observation sheet for the analysis of the existing road infrastructure, In this way, 18 points were determined that require intervention in the urban area, and as a result of the research, it was also established thatthe city does not have a study that allows a solution to the problem of speeding at pointsof high pedestrian flow and at intersections that represent a threat to safe circulation.The measure or strategy to be applied at the critical point was established taking into account that this does not affect vehicular and pedestrian mobility by implementing speed reduction measures such as speed bumps, cushions, cross strips, logarithmic lines,grids, blocking of turns, and a total reference budget of 70,559.66 was established for the development of the project. It can be concluded that it is necessary to implement a traffic calming plan in the city to regulate speed and safeguard the lives of pedestrians.It is recommended that the Autonomous Decentralized Municipal Government of Tena take into consideration the mechanisms and strategies proposed in this research work as an alternative solution.
