Determinación del ciclo estral en búfalas mediante un detector digital de celo y ovulación.

Abstract

The present research aimed to determine the estrous cycle in Buffaloes by means of a digital heat and ovulation detector, where a descriptive statistic was applied, for the field work were selected 30 buffalo females with an average age of 4 years, average weight of 489 kg and with the help of the digital heat and ovulation detector, the measurement of vaginal mucus resistance was carried out as well as the observation of the other variables such as:swelling of the vulva, presence of vaginal mucus and depigmentation of heat detector patch. For the determination of the estrous cycle, the tabulation and interpretation of the results obtained during the 40 days of measurement was carried out; subsequently, measures of central trend (range, mean, median, maximum, minimum, variance)) were used, in addition to graphs and histograms of frequencies through the Microsoft Excel 2016 program. The results obtained determined that the duration of the estrous cycle is 21.83 days dividing the cycle into the 4 different stages; estrus with an average of 1, metastro 5.43, right-handed 12.47 and proestrus 2.93 days. As for the economic analysis, it was observed that the total cost of the experiment was 567.15 USD and a unit cost per buffalo is $18.90. It was concluded that the behavior presented by most of the females in the estrus stage was manifested with the absence of swelling, redness of the vulva and absence of vaginal mucus in most of the females analyzed, and in turn as a recommendation to include the method of digital detection of heat and ovulation in the reproduction programs.
