Cuento ilustrado infantil-juvenil waorani: El hijo del sol.

Abstract

This research aimed to address the decreasing intergenerational transmission of Waorani oral traditions, caused by the declining interest of young people in their cultural roots, influenced by globalization. The general objective was to create an illustrated story that preserves the collective memory of the children and youth community from Orellana. We applied the methodology of Ambrose Harris, involving several stages, such as research, idea generation, refinement, socialization planning and validation. During the research phase, we gathered information about the Waorani community, we selected a representative story and identified relevant narrative elements. The generation of ideas included the fragmentation of the script, the creation of storyboards and the design of characters and scenes. In the refinement stage, we revised and adjusted the script and storyboard based on the criteria of experts. Then the application of color and texturing was done, followed by the correction and digital layout of the final illustrations. The validation of the story by means of surveys and a checklist in educational institutions in Orellana revealed a remarkable interest in the children for the Waorani culture and their ability to adapt to native mythologies. These results validated the relevance of the illustrated story in presenting the cultural heritage and stimulating children's interest in Waorani culture, also demonstrating the possibility of adapting native mythologies for children and youth audience.
