Abstract

The objective of this investigation was the evaluation of the feasibility index for the sustainable use of the products obtained from the pyrolysis of urban plastic waste, for which a collection of data and information was carried out at a local, national and international level, which allowed situate the research in a general context for subsequent evaluation to be carried out. To determine the feasibility index, taking the information previously collected as a starting point, the possible environmental, economic and social impacts were initially determined, which were evaluated according to their level of importance using the Leopold matrix after this. The goals of objectives of the Plan for the Creation of Opportunities of the current government were used to determine the sustainability index under three axes; both the assessment of impacts and the determination of the sustainability index gives way to determination of the feasibility index. The information was collected, ordered and evaluated. In the Leopold matrix, it was determined that the most crucial factor was economic, followed by environmental and social, respectively; in the same way, in evaluating the sustainability and feasibility index, the most problematic axis was the economic one. It is concluded that the feasibility index is in an unstable range, which means that the project could be more viable. Therefore, it is recommended that investigations be continued about the feasibility of plastic waste pyrolysis due to the need for more current information in this area.
