Plan integral de seguridad vial para las zonas escolares en el sector urbano del Cantón Pallatanga

Abstract

The present research project called Comprehensive Road Safety Plan for school areas in the urban sector of the Pallatanga canton, was carried out with the purpose of improving the safety of students as the most vulnerable population when traveling daily from their homes to the different educational institutions; The qualitative and quantitative modality was used; First, the 4 educational institutions that belong to the urban area were identified, then the delimitation by school zones was carried out based on the regulations of the Ecuadorian Technical Regulation RTE INEN 004 part 1, where 4 zones were obtained, this delimitation was essential to know that streets intervene in each school zone and thus be able to apply the observation sheet which contains parameters of: road geometry, horizontal signage, vertical signage, sidewalks and roadway; In the end, the number of students, teachers and parents corresponding to each institution was investigated for the implementation of a survey on their perception of road safety. The results of the observation sheet show the deterioration of the road infrastructure in all school areas, likewise the population surveyed indicated that the majority feel unsafe when traveling on the streets, due to the lack of culture and road education in the citizens; Faced with this scenario, solutions are proposed that respond to the needs identified in each school zone, which include the maintenance, restoration and installation of safety elements for the road infrastructure, as well as training and awareness proposals aimed at the student population and citizens. The "GADM de Pallatanga" and the authorities of educational institutions are recommended to consider the proposals in this study to provide citizens in general with a better quality of life.
