Rediseño de la Planta de Tratamiento de Aguas Residuales Rumipamba de las Rosas del cantón Salcedo

Abstract

The "Rumipamba de las Rosas”" Wastewater Treatment Plant was redesigned in Salcedo canton in order for the wastewater discharge in the Cutuchi river to comply with the current environmental regulations and to improve its population quality life. First, the technical diagnosis was carried out to very both the plant conforming-unit dimensions on-site and it’s running. Then the flow volume measured with volumetric method getting an average flow of 6.39 L/s. Then was the physical, chemical and microbiological analyses were done obtaining the following results in the final discharge: BOD5 220 mg/l, COD 405 mg/l, Real Color 57PtCo, Nitritos+Nitratos 12 mg/l, surfactants 7,8 mg/l and 520 fecal coliforms Nmp/100 ml; These parameters do not comply with the permitted UTSEL limits. Having gotten these results, it was possible the systems to be redesigned so as to reduce polluting water efficiently. The redesign comprises two processes: the first consists of the current plant improvement in which there will be more bar screens and they will be placed in the spillway, sludge in the imhoff tank will be evacuated, the ventilation area will be open, the filter and macrophytes will be changed in the artificial wetland. The second consists a new treatment plant near the actual one which consists of bar screens, a sand trap, an imhoff tank and an artificial wetland. With the proposed redesign the plant will be a imhoff tank removal from 25% to 50% BOD, 40% COD; the artificial wetland will 90% BOD and 75% COD efficient by redesigning the proposed plant. It is recommended to execute it.
