The present paper was carried out 2003 and involves the design of mitigation measures for greenhouse tomato production of the enterprise Austroriego Cia . Ltda, locat ed at Yaguarcuna Alto sector Southwards from Loja city. The objectives were, carrying out an initial environmental evaluation of the environmental aspects generated in the greenhouse tomato production process and designing the mitigation and compensation measures for the significant environmental impact and aspects under the ISO 14001 norm principles. The tested hypothesis was: upon knowing the environmental impact generated in the greenhouse tomato production process, it is possible to design mitigation and compensation measures for the significant environmental impact and aspects and to structure the environmental Management Plan for such a productive activity. The interdisciplinary human team of environmental revision was formed and information was coll ected through visits to the enterprise installations, worker interviews, revision of the culture agrotechnical work and input used in the process. Through the lab testing the physical, chemical and microbiological features of irrigation water, pesticide r esidue presence in the soil and tomato fruit were determined. Through interviews, aspects related to the workers’ health were known. The evaluated environmental impact and aspects were: the visual impact caused by the lack of order and cleanliness of the greenhouse surroundings with a 109 value; the environmental pollution because of the presence of agrochemical containers generated in the agricultural and livestock input warehouse with a 61 value; the tomato fruit pollution with residues of pest chemicals , produced by the phyto - sanitary control with red and mainly blue label products, with a 47 value; the irrigation water quality which produces a soil impact and production quality with a 50 value; and the influence on the workers’ health due to the lack of protection measures. Procedures for the following mitigation measures were designed: management of solid residues; processing and application of biofertilizers; integrated handling of pests and diseases; protection of the Yaguarcuna spring and the constr uction of a filtration; an educational Plan and workers health protection. The initial cost of the implementation of mitigation measures are 1357.4 USD representing the highest cost, the integrated pest and disease handling (USD 408.8) the biofertilizer pr ocessing (USD 323.3) and the irrigation water quality improvement (USD 322.5) The proposal is feasible economically and has been accepted by the enterprise management and its implementation has been initiated.es_ES
