Evaluación de hato lechero del Centro de Excelencia Agropecuario de Burgay, utilizando el programa de cruzamiento ganadero Select Mating Service (SMS)

Abstract

In the facilities of the Agriculture Excellence Center of Burgay belonging to the Gobierno Descentralizado of Cañar (GADPC), the evaluation of the dairy herd was developing by using the Program Select Mating Service (SMS) of cattle crossing. The research results were analyzed through central tendency measurements for each one of the lineal characteristics of the herd. The record if the stud used since 2012 were found in the NAAB (National Association of Animal Breeders) whereby, the new generation from heifers to calves have a brood record of the father but not of the mother, since there are not subsequent records. In the herd of the CEAB (Agriculture Excellence Center of Burgay) it has been a minor improvement in the conformation on second generation cows but not the third or more generations. When finding an animal whit hermaphroditism the cause could be a high consanguinity since there are not significant genealogical data, for that reason the use of pedigree stud with open and free haplotype was adopted. With the use of the stud proposed by the SMS (Select Mating Service) an important genealogic progress is expected, the influence in the average of the herd production with the first attempt decreased from 18 to 17, 34 liters per day, in the second attempt an increment of 18 to 18, 87 liters per day was achieved with a deference of 1, 53 liters between the first and second attempt. It is relevant to mention that in the first attempt some essential characteristics such as udders and legs were improved.
