Utilización de tres niveles de Scirpus americanus (Totora) en la alimentación de cuyes machos bajo el sistema de crianza piramidal

Abstract

In the San Gerardo parroquia, Guano cantón, province of Chimborazo, the use of different levels of totora (10, 20 and 30 %) was evaluated, in the productive behavior of the male guinea pigs, in the stage of growth and fattening under one pyramidal breeding system, 210 weaned guinea pigs were used at 20 days of age, with an average of 244,50 g and 70 repetitions, which were distributed under a completely random design, at a significance level of (P < 0,05); the results obtained were processed using the statistical software SPSS Statics 21. The final weight and weight gain did not register differences, however favorable responses were obtained for food consumption of 4,89 kg DM in T2 and 5,11 kg DM in T3, while the food conversion more efficient was 7,48 in T1. The highest weights to the carcass were in T2 and T3 with 648,00 and 680,80 g in their order, as well as in the performance to the carcass of 68,39 and 66,66 % respectively, as well as the lower mortality at supply T3. The economic analysis established that it is more profitable to supply to the guinea pigs T3 (30 % totora and 70 % lucerne), since its utility (C/B 1,36), was 36 cents for every dollar invested, which is interesting since it has been possible to find a new non traditional food alternative, besides reducing the costs in infrastructure and space by lodging in burrows raising the profitability.
