Valoración fenotípica de terneras obtenidas mediante el programa de cruzamiento gandero Select Mating Service (SMS) en el período 2014-2015 en la Estación Experimental Tunshi

Abstract

The present investigation proposes: phenotypically evaluate the calves obtained through the Select Mating Service (SMS) crossing program in the period 2014-2015 in Tunshi experimental station of the faculty of Science Livetock of the higher polytechnic school of Chimborazo, it was evaluated different phenotypic characters improved through Select Mating Service application, genealogical register in twelve beef of breed Holstein Mestiza. Different variables were evaluated and measured in absolute values, on a scale of 1 to 9. The data were analyzed by excel software and obtained descriptive results; the results showed and average scored of the angularity of 5,42 points; strength 5,25 points; body deep 5,33 points; rump width 5,17 points; rump angle 5,58 points; legs back view 6,17 points; legs front view 6,25 points; foot angel 5,25 points; height 5,50 points. It was concluded that there is an improvement in the linear characteristics especially in legs that they have a low heritability, this permits a longer herd to stay with an acceptable productive life and reducing the percentage of rejects of earlier years. It is recommended to continue with the artificial insemination using bulls with excellent genetic and improve the characteristics of the legs and udder conformation, characteristics that need increased attention in the Tunshi´s herd.
