This research had as objective to take advantage of the rice husk in the development of lightening blocks, Joya de los Sachas, Orellana Canton, which will be used in the field of construction, highlighting some characteristics of conventional blocks in strength and weight. Chemical and physical analysis were done to know its composition, physical analysis showed a moisture content of 7,17 % absorption capacity 54% and specific weigh of 4.903N/m3.Chemical analysis as pH 6,76, Carbon 1,79%, total Nitrogen 0,15 and silicium 78,27%. After determining the characteristics of the rice husk, four types of treatment were formulated for the manufacture of the blocks, the first treatment with 44% rice husk, the second treatment 53% rice husk, the third treatment 65% rice husk and the fourth treatment 50% or rice husk. The blocks were subjected to physical and mechanical tests for comprehension, absorption and weight tests. Obtaining results that in the treatment 1 has a resistance 15,77Kg/cm2, 13,13 % of absorption and 3,6215 Kg of weight , treatment 2 20Kg/cm² , 13,37 % of absorption and 3,5857 Kg of weight, treatment 3 10,07 Kg/cm² ,13,66 % absorption and 3,5787 weight, treatment 4 19,42 Kg/cm² , 13,94 % absorption and 3,7057 weight. Concluding according to the results that treatment 2 is the most suitable with resistance of 20kg/cm2 and a weight of 3, 5857 kg, verifying that the use of rice husk in the manufacture of the blocks is possible since it improves the physical properties and mechanics of conventional blocks, in addition to reducing the negative impact on the environment and reducing the cost of production. It is recommended to future research to this kind of research to perform tests to know its capacity as acoustic insulation at laboratory level.es_ES
