A multimodal sound level meter prototype was implemented to measure the frequency of the sound level in the city of Riobamba. For this purpose, it is shown the development of the acquisition system sound pressure level at two points located by GPS, in order to be an essential tool for the analysis and study of noise pollution. The measuring instrument is characterized by allowing the registration and display of temperature and humidity in real time. On the other hand the measuring device was developed taking into account the standard of International Electrical Commission IEC 61672-1 and fundamental characteristics of a sound level meter. For the design and implementation of sound level meter prototype, it was built a sensor transmitter node and a receiving node, based on Arduino hardware which sends information through continuous reports, developed by LabVIEW graphical programming environment. The data communication system was made through serial communication using two XBee modules using the 6LOWPAN protocol based on the standard (IEEE 802.15.4) in a wireless sensor network (WSN), the duration of each measurement was 10 minute periods considered most noise in the downtown area of Riobamba. For validation of the result obtained it was compared with the information of the sound level meter application on the smartphone Samsung Galaxy S4 mini and Sony Aqua. As a result was obtained that the proposed system offered information similar to a sound level meter class 2 existing in the market according to the IEC 61672 standard, with 99% of efficiency and reliability, when getting the sound levels. It is concluded that the prototype provides reliability for measurements in urban areas with ease of communication. It is recommended to use the sound level meter prototype in ESPOCH-FIE to determine noise levels in the environment according to the Unified Text of Secondary Environmental Legislation (UTSEL) BOOK VI Annex 5, due to its versatility and low cost.es_ES
