Evaluación integral del sistema vial del cantón Chambo, aplicando la metodología HCM

Abstract

This research aims to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the road system of Chambo canton located in Chimborazo province by implementing the HCM methodology to provide systematic and consistent bases of the different elements of the road transport systems, identifying the ideal conditions of circulation and preventing traffic accidents in the canton Chambo. The information-gathering was possible by observation forms to get to know the current situation of the road network of the Chambo canton. This road is made of collector roads and local and secondary preferential roads. In addition, it was possible to identify four entry routes classified in the class II roads. The required information such as the vehicle volume in hours of maximum demand, its vehicle composition, the traffic speed, and the geometric characteristics of the study roads, was collected to calculate the capacity and level of service of the road network of the canton Chambo. It is concluded that the urban road network is on flat terrain with horizontal gradient, the study roads March 18, Carlos Cuadrado and Cacique Achamba in their two sections have a service level A, with a maximum vehicular capacity per hour of 1203, 980, 1278 and 1238 and a maximum demand volume of 254, 203, 178 and 132 veh / h. respectively. In addition, the three access routes Ulpán-Julquis, Chambo-Quimiag, and Riobamba-Chambo have a service of A, B, and D levels respectively. It is recommended to collect information on vehicle volumetric counts once the health emergency has been overcome.
