Propuesta de jerarquización vial y señalización horizontal y vertical del cantón Chillanes, provincia de Bolívar

Abstract

The objective of this Degree Project called Proposal for Road Hierarchization and horizontal and vertical signaling in the Chillanes Canton Province of Bolivar was to improve mobility through correct planning of the road network to reduce vehicular conflicts, and with its respective signaling to inform the road direction at intersections based on the INEN Norms and the Roads Law of Ecuador. For this research, an observation sheet was used to obtain information on the geometric characteristics of the roads and existing horizontal and vertical signage, and the vehicle flow, peak hours, and Average Daily Annual Traffic (ADAT) of the intersections with the highest vehicular flow were determined through the vehicle capacity. In addition, an interview was conducted with the Land Transportation, Transit, and Road Safety Unit to socialize the proposal. The data on the geometric characteristics of the roads and existing signage were analyzed to determine the type of road according to the Roads Law of Ecuador and to complement the signage based on the INEN Standards. It is concluded that the proposal for road hierarchy and horizontal and vertical signage is directly related to road safety and would help to improve mobility within the urban area of the canton. It is recommended that this proposal be taken into account by the competent authorities for its implementation.
