Caracterización morfológica de la gallina de campo en la provincia de Orellana.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to morphologically characterize the free-range hens in the province of Orellana using 100 hens from the 4 towns (Loreto, Sacha, Aguarico and Puerto Francisco de Orellana). The corresponding zoometric measurements were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results indicated: live weight (2.84 kg); head length (6.45 cm); head width (3.7 cm); ear length (2.28 cm); ear width (0.34 cm), crest length (4.95 cm), crest width (0.72 cm), beak length (3.91 cm); neck length (14.1 cm); dorsal length (24.74 cm); ventral length (26.78cm); femoroilioischiatic width (10.08 cm); chest circumference (37.79cm); brim length (23.95cm); proximal wing length (11.5cm); medium brim length (9.41cm); distal wing length (7.61 cm); thigh length (11.69cm); leg length (13.63cm); leg circumference (13.29 cm); cane length (8.05cm); middle finger length (6.19cm); and spur length (0.77cm). It was concluded that hens from Sacha town showed superiority regarding the zoometric measurements of the free-range hens. It was demonstrated that within the region there is no homogeneity. Knowing these variabilities will allow the creation of rustic productive lines, so it is recommended to study, in depth, the free-range hens to obtain more information on the morphological characteristics to strengthen the sustainable livestock work.
