Comportamiento Nutricional en Terneros Lactantes de 30 a 90 Días con Diferentes Niveles de Bagazo en el Concentrado de Inicio

Abstract

At the Institute of Animal Science, Havana, Cuba. the effect of the use of 30% of cane flour, 15 and 25% of bagasse in the integral feed on the behavior of lactating calves from 30 to 90 days of age was evaluated. 30 Holstein crossbred calves from 21 days of age with a completely randomized design divided into 3 treatments were used. Food consumption did not differ between treatments during the experiment. The gain of PV at 60 days was higher (P <0.05) in the cane treatments and 15% of bagasse in the integral diet. At 90 days it was higher (P <0.05) in the control treatment and did not differ with the use of bagasse. The conversion of the MS differed between treatments (P <0.05) at 60 days. At 90 days, it worsened with 25% of bagasse in food, being less than 15% of bagasse in the treatment, respectively. The incidence of diarrhea was relatively low and did not differ between treatments, respectively. The results of the behavioral tests indicated a trend towards longer consumption times with the control diet without significant difference. There was no difference between treatments in rumination time in standing animals. In the thrown animals the rumination was significantly higher with 25% bagasse in the whole diet (P <0.05). Rest time differed (P <0.05) between treatments in standing animals and did not differ in rest position (lying). The cost analysis indicated a better benefit for treatments with bagasse in the diet. Bagasse is recommended as a source of fiber in the calf's diet under unconventional conditions up to 15%.
