Abstract : This research aimed to determine the structure and composition of the urban trees and green index of the city of Tena, located in Napo Province. For the research development, the field phase was to delimit the study area and then georeferencing and locating the evaluated surface, a census and coding of all species was carried out followed by biological sampling which was recorded in the field book. For the laboratory phase, treatments performed on each of the collected samples to facilitate their study were obtained, the drying and pressing process of the samples were carried out in the ESPOCH herbarium, for their subsequent identification and assembly of the sample. Finally, it was proceeded to systematize data with the calculation of Shanoon and Simpson indexes and Importance Value Index and Urban Green Index for their interpretation. The results of the study revealed 8 identified urban green areas of interest of the Municipality of the city of Tena that comprised 4403 m2 of surface. These areas were grouped into 2 categories, obtaining green areas in parks with 1440 m2, and 1063 m2 for avenues. Likewise, 0.83 m2 / inhabitant was obtained. 458 individuals were inventoried within which their way of life was (24.24% trees, 23.36% shrubs and 52.40% palms) and they were grouped into 22 families, 38 genus and 37 species. The most representative species according to the Importance Value Index were Syagrus sancona (18.13%), Roystonea regia (16.87%), Brownea grandiceps (11.48%) and Ocotea quixos (7.14%) while 21 species had less than 1% IVI and were considered minor. It was recommended to extend this research for a future evaluation with the use of remote sensing techniques and tools.
